Closer is a Life Group of Refuge! What we strive for at each meeting is to study God's Word and have a better understanding of what He wants to do in our lives. The lessons are geared towards high school students, to help them apply Biblical principles to their lives as they go through their day.
Refuge, the high school ministry of Healing Place Church, meets every Wednesday at the Annex on Airline Hwy. with lead youth pastor Jason Laird. Students are exposed to a positive atmosphere with awesome worship, great Biblical teaching, and fellowship among other students. Life Groups, or Bible study groups, are extensions of Refuge. Since the groups are usually small, it help students develop personal relationships with the leaders and other students that otherwise wouldn't be possible in a youth group of Refuge's size. Life Groups are a great way to make new friendships and get involved with the events at Refuge.
Who is allowed to come?
We at Closer don't turn anyone away! Reguardless of your social status or your income level, all high school students are welcome to attend as little or as much as they'd like!
What do you have in store for me?
At each meeting at Closer we will study any given topic and relate it to scripture to discuss how God would want us as Christians to handle it. Also, Closer is a great way to meet other high school believers outside of Refuge, and build lasting friendships, because everyone needs a friend. We also go on outreaches with Refuge, and even organize some of our own. However, we're not all work and no play. We, as a group, have done fun things together ranging from rock climbing to video gaming.
Is there adult supervision?
Yes! Our life group is adult led. Paula and Glenn Crowe and Blake and Candace Urban take turns teaching at each study group. Occasionally a student will have something to share, in which case the adults are more than happy to let them have the floor.
What do I need to do to get involved?
Just show up at a meeting! If you'd rather not just jump straight in though, try and meet up with one of the leaders before or after a Refuge service and tell them of your interest in attending Closer. They'd be more than happy to introduce you to some of the students who already attend, so that you'll at least know a few people when you show up.
You guys start around the time I eat...
We have food.
